Not dishwasher safeSep 08, 2009
By SMW I purchased this water bottle after a long search for a BPA free water bottle for my son. He loved the solar system design, and functionally the water bottle works very well. However, after less than 10 uses I noticed that the paint was peeling off the bottle - after about 20 uses, the paint was off 60% of the bottle. I contacted Crocodile Creek, the rep told me that the bottle are NOT dishwasher safe - which was the cause of the paint peel. I probably would not have purchased this item had I know it was not dishwasher safe - it's just not practical in a busy family to be washing this by hand every day. However, to Crocodile Creek's credit, they did offer to replace the bottle. Also - purchased the vehicle s/s bottle for my other son - it had only minimal peeling after the same amount of use (the rep did say that some designs were more prone to peeling than others).

The Peeling PlanetsFeb 25, 2010
By Babs Brooklyn My kids love these bottles. Why? Becasue of the vibrant color designs and interesting themes (dinosaurs, planets; jungle animals, trucks, etc.)
As a mom, I love them for the same reason, but also because the core of the bottle is made of stainless steel, a much more durable and safer alternative to plastic. They also keep cold beverages insulated better than plastic. They are also just the right size to fit into a convetional lunchbox.
BUT, I have complaints.
1) The exterior design, made of some type of laminate, peels off the bottle after just a short amount of routine wear and hand washing. I have the bottles for just about a month now, and they are all peeling in the same spot: bottom seam.
2) Not dishwasher safe. Need I say more.
3) The drinking spout is loose and if not shut all the way, it will leak. So I place the bottles in a ziploc freezer bag before packing them in a lunchbox.
4) The metal will react to certain acidic drinks... like apple juice. After about 10 hours in the bottle, the juice had a vinegary taste.
For ten bucks, this should be a better product. But looks alone, it would win a beauty contest.

leaksFeb 02, 2010
By Katherine K. Walters my 6 1/2 year old wanted this to replace a lost spce-themed sigg he took everyday to school. His teacher asked me to replace this one because it leaked, making all of his papers and folders wet. The lid is difficult to push all the way down and often looks closed but is just open enough to make a mess. I am replacing it with another sigg.

Great water bottleOct 26, 2011
By FreeSpirit Bought this as a set with our son's backpack for school and it's great. Temperature controlled given the steel tube inside. Keeps the water cold, and I'm guessing a hot liquid would stay hot as well. Surprisingly, contrary to most reviews, we have never had any problem washing this in our dishwasher. Not sure if other reviewers have simply not tried it, or tried it and couldn't get it to work. We have washed this more than a dozen times by now and the bottle is just the same.
The only one improvement I would have liked to see is for a small hook or button on the back of the top plastic cap that would hold it in place when opened. With the current design, the plastic cap needs to be held with one hand so that it doesn't come in the way when drinking water from it. Not the easiest thing to do for smaller kids. If the cap could stay open by itself so that the child can grab he bottle with both hands to drink, that would work a lot better.

Scratches easilyDec 06, 2009
By Art E. Misia I wanted to like this product. It looks great and it's made of clean stainless, rather than plastic. However, the cool-looking paint scratches and chips way too easily. This bottle also can't be washed in the dishwasher, which makes it less than convenient for our busy household.
