hard to beat this little beastJun 29, 2011
By solocanoe I have had a Tan Izzy for a long time - the original one I had was numbered under 1000. They have now (as of this writing) passed the 16,000 unit mark!
I've sold all my RC/ESEE/Rat knives...and then had to get back some Izzy's - there just isn't another option - at this price point - and with these ergos - that does what this little blade can do.
2 ounces - and you can baton it all day? just over six inches and you can filet bluegill or build a survival shelter or beat it into firewood to split to find the dry center?
The handle ergo's are great for neck carry - the rounded butt won't jab your stomach. The blade, being a drop point, is just about perfect for most anything. The steel is wonderful. Rowen's heat treat on this 1095 means you can sharpen it with a stream rock if you had too...and if you CAN damage it...like all the blades from this family - it's "free forever" to get another from them.
easy to carry in the front or back pocket - with the factory sheath or lots of great options on the web too.
the "flatness" means you can also put it on a pack strap, horizontal or vertical on a belt, or slipped into a small seam on a bag you may be carrying for quick access.
It's a wonderful blade to own.

Nice little knife!Jan 10, 2011
By dtox This knife arrived promptly and was exactly what I was on the market for...a neck knife with multiple carry options sporting high quality steel and a razor edge. Put a checkmark on all those boxes and more! Let me tell you this little thing was shavin the hair off my arm right out of the packaging. It is lightweight but extremely stout. The handle is a bit small but its compact size is exactly why I bought the knife. When wrapped with paracord, the handle becomes very comfortable and the little knot on the end keeps my pinky finger from sliding off the bottom. The paracord could then be used for lashing to a longer pole to make a spear that I wouldn't want to be standing at the wrong end of! It does come in a version with a half inch longer handle, but I don't need that and I wear an XL glove. Its a perfect companion to my Tops Anaconda which sports a 9.5 in blade, (great for chopping and other heavy work, but not much of a whittler).
The sheath is very tight at first but after playing with it, (taking the knife in and out of it), for about 10 minutes the blade comes out rather smoothly yet still holds it very secure in the inverted position. You just have to hold the sheath with your thumb as you draw the knife to accomplish this task with one hand.
The blade comes with instructions on how to wrap the handle and use all the gadgets that come with it if you opt for the kit which I thought to be pretty handy. I especially liked the trap trigger detail using the different sized key rings. With a proper lanyard this is one sexy little knife that I'll never go in the woods without!
Fantastic survival-grade neck knife.Sep 14, 2011
By Joe This is a very tough little knife--thick enough to baton wood, and sharp enough for cutting tasks. Great powdercoating to prevent against rust. Excellent kydex sheath that retains it well with no rattling. I find I reach for it in my pocket several times a day. Wrap the handle with paracord for an improved grip. You can also tie a loop of para around the sheath and belt loop--when you pull out the knife, the sheath hangs down so you won't lose it in the brush.
I would consider this a survival neck knife--a thick hearty blade designed primarily for heavy-duty tasks. It still can be sharpened to a very fine edge, but if I needed to chip an ice block, baton wood all day long, etc, I wouldn't hesitate.
The only con I can think of is that the powdercoating will rub off after very heavy use, leaving the carbon steel susceptible to rust. I took all the coating off with paint thinner and soaked the blade in vinegar to form a protective patina, and it works well (a little better in wood actually, less drag...). Make sure to keep it dry and oiled, the bare metal can rust very quickly when exposed to water.
For $50, I think this is the best value available in a neck knife that can stand up to virtually anything.
