Best Alphabet Blocks We've FoundNov 07, 2010
By J. Vickery These alphabet blocks are a favorite in our house. My daughter loves them because they're big, bright, and easy to stack. I love them because of the way they're designed. They've got a capital letter on one painted face and its lowercase painted partner on the other face. The four engraved sides all feature words that start with the target letter. So much more logical than the random pictures that end up on many block sets. I'm now in the market for a second set so my daughter can use them to match uppercase/lowercase letters and match pictures with their initial sounds.
We had a more expensive set of "heirloom quality" alphabet blocks before these, but that set got very little attention. This set gets daily use.

Melissa & Doug Large Alphabet Blocks vs. Uncle Goose Alphabet BlocksApr 21, 2011
By lilmommarupprecht So we were debating on whether or not to get these or the "Uncle Goose" brand alphabet blocks for our son's 1st birthday. Before I start the review I'd like to point out that Melissa & Doug have 2 sets of alphabet blocks, one set has bigger blocks than the other and I am reviewing the larger set(I believe they are 1.75 inches and the other set it 7/8 inch. We decided on these since they were lower in price and the same size as the other brand. The pros about the Melissa & Doug Alphabet Blocks are their size, their cost, the fact that there are both the upper AND lowercase versions of each letter, they are very lightweight, and that the pictures on the blocks correspond with the letter on the blocks. My biggest complaint is that for some reason the blocks don't look all that bright and colorful to me, I don't like that there are two shades of blue I wish they were blue, red, green and yellow instead. That is my ONLY complaint about them though, hence the four stars. The Uncle Goose ones look better in my opinion, and seem more high quality but the picture doesn't always correspond with the letter on the block and they can only be bought in all uppercase or in all lowercase. All in all go with the Melissa & Doug if you're after the educational aspect and want to spend less, and go with the Uncle Goose if you want the higher quality appearance and feel. We are happy with our decision but might add a set of the Uncle Goose ones when Christmas rolls around.

I can't say anything bad about these blocks!Feb 24, 2010
By Navy Wife These blocks are larger then the previous blocks I owned and have much more vibrant colors then normal blocks. We are very happy with our purchase as both our 4 year old and 2 year old love playing with these blocks. The colors are beautiful the size is wonderful the case holds them all (with a gap for two more). They are cute.....try to get them on sale though lol!
Gorgeous but SHARP cornersDec 11, 2011
By Chicken In A Bread Pan Gorgeous blocks with a beautiful Celtic-like etched face. Good size for building, great images on the blocks, everything is A+ wonderful. HOWEVER, they have sharp, pointy corners -- VERY sharp corners, the kind that make you curse like a sailor if you step on them (and you will). I dislike them for that very reason...blocks always end up on the floor (even if it's for a little bit) and these are sharp enough to break skin. Sharp, pointy edges make the manufacturer seem thoughtless and out of touch (which is odd, because I love this brand).
